| Science Lab Experience
Every student at St. Patrick School explores the mysteries of science under the instruction of a trained educational instructor in our state-of-the-art science laboratory. Students learn chemistry, observe laboratory animals, and take walks around the neighborhood to get a better understanding about their environment. Students also participate in an annual science fair. Computer Science Lab St. Patrick School is blessed to have a computer science lab boasting 30 working, up-to-date, networked computers. Students begin their study of the computer in kindergarten when they learn to identify numbers, letters, and specific keys on the keyboard. Upper grades learn to use the computer as a research tool, looking up specific information on the internet while supervised. All grades learn basic word processing skills utilizing Microsoft Word, as well as desktop publishing skills. Library Studies and Muti-media Center The St. Patrick School has a library of over 10,000 books for the children to browse and peruse as well as magazines and journals, a VCR, and various educational videos and movies. The library is also equipped with several computers networked with those in the computer lab.
Arts Program A comprehensive arts program includes art, music and dance. Children learn an appreciation of the many different artists past and present and try to imitate specific styles in their reproductive drawings of paintings. They are encouraged in the creative process to pull on their talents from experience and imagination. Students are offered dance classes in Grades 4,5,6. The flutophone is introduced in Grade 2 and students audition for the orchestra in Grade 3. Music theory, rhythm, and chorus are included in the program. Enrichment Visiting theatrical, scientific, and musical productions are offered as enrichment to all students. Trips to places of interest including the opera, concerts, and theatre are part of a students curriculum. For those who are academically at the top of their fifth, sixth, and seventh grade class, enrichment offers challenges such as global web quests, where students cyber-travel through various parts of the world learning and meeting teachers, scientists, and peers. Other interesting challenges include the Stock Market Game, where students learn the ups and downs of the stock market, participating in mock buying and selling. Advanced Math 7th and 8th Grade Seventh and eighth grade students in advanced math are taught high school level math while earning regents credit. Spanish All students at St. Patrick School are taught the elementary basics of Spanish as a second language. Extended Day An extended day program is offered from 2:15pm-5:15pm. Daily activities include arts and crafts, computer games, a gym session, and homework time. |
